Mom mentioned that a special surprise would soon be on it’s way. A surprise i said
to myself i love surprises what could it be. There was no nicely wrapped gift
anywhere. But why would there be my birthday was still month’s away and
mom would usually ask me what i would like. This was puzzling me all right.
It so began to gnaw at me. One expression that came to mind was life’s full of
surprises. But the question that i asked myself was it a surprise i would like. I
don’t recall mom having too many surprises. But now she did. I tried not to
concentrate to much about it but call me curious if you will. She wouldn’t
devulge anything her lips were tightly sealed. I tried many times to get it out
of her no such luck. I guessed i would just have to wait and see. One evening
she arrived home carrying what resembled a bag you would see at a gym. Mom
wasn’t one who frequented one of our local gyms and curiosity began to get the
best of me. What was in that gym bag? I was tempted to just ask her but i knew
i wouldn’t get a straight answer. I inched closer to that bag but what was i
hoping to find. Suddenly, she unzipped it and removed a tiny kitten so soft and
cute. His fur was black and white and when i petted him he purred. So this
was the surprise she had been keeping from us. I never would have guessed. It
was such a delightful surprise and i stood there with a huge smile upon my
face. Mom was so glad we all enjoyed him and he would soon become a part of
our home. We already had dogs and another cat but mom just couldn’t resist
this cute ball of fur she saw in that pet shop window. We decided to name
him Hudson for the Hudson Valley Mall where she bought him. Hudson soon
began to interact with our other animals and they seemed to like him and vice
versa. Everyone adored him and most of all me. For a cat he was so darn smart
and it never ceased to amaze us the things we used to see him do. Once he
went outside and nudged one of our dogs to come back inside the house.
Another time i saw him sitting on the couch and when that Meow Mix
commercial came on to my amazement he was imitating the music. There was
no end to his talents. When we moved back to the City of course he came with
us. Dad soon took it upon himself to care for Hudson and he adored him too.
Unfortunately, when we had to move dad to that Nursing Home Upstate we
had to reloacte the poor cat to yet another place. He was now becoming a
world traveler so to speak. He enjoyed going out of our patio door and explore
the area nearby. Being a City cat we wouldn’t let him roam free. Mom took
excellent care of him and he even slept in her bed. To my surprise Hudson
passed away and i was just so sad to lose our special family pet. Now whenever
i think of him i am filled with a smile on my face. He was indeed that and so much more.
